How do I become a member?

Jua Kali Friends CBO offers two membership types. Digital membership (KES 200) is open anytime via our online platform. Premium membership (KES 5,000) is registered in person during January and February every year. You must be 18+ with a valid National ID.

What are the membership fees?

Digital membership: KES 200 (open anytime). Premium membership: KES 5,000 non-refundable (January-February only). Minimum monthly savings contribution is KES 50.

How much can I borrow?

Members can borrow up to 70% of their total accumulated savings. Loans repaid within one month attract 10% interest; late repayment attracts 20% interest per the constitution.

When can I withdraw my savings?

Withdrawals are allowed on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 15th of every month of every month. A transaction fee of KES 150 applies.

What are Chama Points?

Chama Points are earned during transactions and can be redeemed on June 1-5 and December 1-5 each year. They reward active participation in group activities.

What welfare support is available?

Welfare registration costs KES 200. Members contribute a minimum of KES 100 when a member is admitted to hospital. The group also provides last expense insurance coverage for registered members and their families.

When are meetings held?

First Sunday of every month, 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Premium members are expected to attend. Accepted apologies include sickness, death of a relative, or being outside Nairobi.
